You may be aware that from Monday the 23rd of June, weight loss injections may be available on the NHS however like most things, this is not as straight forward as it sounds. There is strict criteria in place for patients to be eligible.
The criteria are patients need to have a BMI over 40 AND 4 out of the 5 conditions:
- High cholesterol
- Type 2 diabetes
- High Blood Pressure
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea
- Cardiovascular disease
Initially, the injections will only be prescribed in a dedicated weight loss clinic alongside behavioural and physical support. There is plans for a phased roll out later in the year for Primary Care. Due to this, we will not be able to prescribe these injections at the surgery as of yet.
